Strengthening ocean governance through investigative journalism

March 2025

The Outlaw Ocean Project is a nonprofit investigative journalism organisation dedicated to uncovering crimes, human rights abuses and environmental destruction in the ocean. Through in-depth reporting, immersive storytelling and partnerships with major media outlets, the project brings hidden maritime issues to light, driving accountability and reform.

Past investigations by The Outlaw Ocean Project have exposed illegal fishing, human trafficking and forced labour in the seafood industry – bringing global attention to these issues and prompting responses from governments, corporations and regulatory bodies. One notable investigation revealed the widespread use of forced labour on fishing vessels supplying major international markets, leading to policy discussions and corporate commitments to improve supply chain transparency.

We are supporting The Outlaw Ocean Project as they continue their vital work exposing the systemic issues affecting our ocean and those who depend on them. By amplifying these stories, we hope to help drive greater transparency, accountability and action on ocean governance.
