Grant making

We appreciate learning about organisations around the world that are working to protect and restore biodiversity through marine conservation and climate communications. However, please note that we have clear criteria in place to assess projects for funding. If you are considering reaching out, we ask that you carefully evaluate whether your work aligns with these criteria to ensure relevance to our mission and approach.

Criteria for funding
We consider projects that meet the following key criteria:

  • Alignment with our mission – The project must have a clear and direct focus on the protection and restoration of biodiversity through marine conservation or climate communications.
  • Measurable KPIs and outcomes – Projects must define specific, measurable outcomes that represent a clear step forward in marine conservation or climate action.
  • Phased budget and timetable – Proposals should include a phased budget alongside a realistic timeline for achieving key performance indicators (KPIs).

Our focus areas
Our funding is guided by our Strategic Overview, with a focus on:

  • Protecting 30% of the ocean by 2030 – Supporting the creation and effective management of highly or fully protected Marine Protected Areas (MPAs).
  • Fighting overfishing – Advancing science-based fisheries management and policies to combat overfishing and reduce destructive fishing practices.
  • Protecting and restoring marine and coastal ecosystems – Safeguarding and rehabilitating vital marine and coastal habitats to enhance biodiversity and resilience.
  • Climate communications – Supporting strategic, data-driven campaigns to shift public narratives and build support for climate action.

What we do not fund
To ensure our resources remain focused on these strategic priorities, we do not fund:

  • Individual scholarships or fellowships
  • One-off events or conferences
  • Academic research or studies that do not have a direct, policy-oriented impact

How to reach us

While we do not accept unsolicited applications, organisations whose work aligns closely with our priorities are welcome to introduce themselves. If you believe your project fits within our focus areas and meets our funding criteria, please contact us at [email protected] with a brief introduction.

Due to the high volume of enquiries, we regret that we are unable to respond to all emails. Please note that submitting an enquiry does not guarantee funding.

We appreciate your interest in partnering with us to protect and restore our planet’s biodiversity
