Public campaigning to ban bottom trawling in MPAs within the European Union
Only One is joining the coalition of Seas At Risk, Oceana Europe, Client Earth, and several other country-level NGOs to take on industrial bottom trawling in EU MPAs, with the goal to get four key EU countries to ban bottom trawling in benthic MPAs by 2026 and to get all EU countries to ban bottom trawling in MPAs by 2030 as a key measure to protect 30% of the ocean by 2030.
Only One have developed a proven, replicable partnership model for public campaigning that generates the necessary grassroots pressure to compel policy change and achieve ocean impact. Its role in the coalition will be to lead a public campaign leveraging communications and organising to put the necessary pressure on decision-makers, and provide political cover for leaders who want to take action against the destructive fishing practice of bottom trawling.
