Ensuring robust EU legislation against Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs) by funding CHEM Trust

June 2020

Chem Trust is Europe’s leading expert NGO on Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals’ (EDCs) policy and science. Their overarching aim is to prevent man-made chemicals from causing long-term damage to wildlife and humans, by ensuring that such chemicals are substituted with safer alternatives. Humans and biodiversity on land and sea are exposed, and vulnerable to EDCs. They directly adversely affect fertility, behaviour and immune & nervous systems. EDCs are present across a vast array of everyday products: kitchen utensils, mobile phones, computers, pesticides in food etc. They easily leak out into the environment because they are not tightly bound to the products or via disposal.

The Becht Foundation funding will support CHEM Trust towards ensuring that by the end of 2021, the European Commission adopts and implements a Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability that will specifically include actions on EDCs. This will be a crucial step towards the ultimate victory in EDCs, i.e. their ban and replacement by safer alternatives.
